Imagination + Ice Cream

Over the last few weeks we’ve seen the Roc’s imagination blossoming.  Pretty cool thing to witness because a year ago there was NO imaginative play coming from this kid.  None.

Overheard #1:  “I’m going to a party.  A birthday party”  while carrying a basket with some balls in it.  He came up to me and said he had a basket of cake and offered me some.  “Here ya go!  It’s cake.  Chocolate cake!”  and then he pretended to eat some too. He then ran off yelling “It’s a PARTY!”

Overheard #2:  He got a ball and a volcano from his dinosaur set and made an ice cream cone:

I walked into the living room and he was talking to himself “It’s an ice cream cone.  Yum!  I’m going to eat it”  He then pretends to eat it.   The ball fell off and he said “Opps!! SPLAT!”

For awhile he has been able to play scenarios with me like Thomas Trains and Little People as long as I come up with the story.  This is the first time he’s come up with something completely ON HiS OWN.   so cool to see!

  1. What a great blog Kim! I know we talk about Rocco and Autism, but to read updates on here gives me an even better understanding of what you are going through. So glad you started this. So glad to hear about all of his progress!

  2. We are so proud of our Rocco. His progress is amazing and wonderful. He is one very lucky little boy to have such beautiful parents to guide him through life….
