I’ve noticed something interesting in the last year since the Roc has been diagnosed with Autism. Almost all my friendships have all changed. Some for the better and some…not so much. There have been two distinct reactions to the announcement of “my son has Autism.”
The first being either an immediate or a slightly delayed response, [...]

Monday + 3 Things

I love Mondays. Back to routine and I get my much needed break in the afternoon. I think it’s my favorite day of the week!
We’ve had a lot going on the past couple weeks and I feel like I’ve been going up and down on a see-saw. The Roc’s been up at the Children’s hospital [...]
“It’s Autism”

A total stranger said this to me tonight as I shepherded the Roc from our favorite natural food store:

Yesterday I had a heck of a day. HUHWHA! The only thing I did recently with that [...]

The Roc is learning the art of bargaining, or you could call it ‘working over his parents to get what he wants.’ I’m not one for ultimatums so I have never been a fan of the ‘eat this/do that or else’ mentality, mostly because we found out early on that those tactics don’t work with [...]
“Don’t like the crying at school” + “Big Hands”

I wrote a few weeks ago that the Roc has been having a tough time at school lately. He wasn’t sitting where he was supposed to during group time, was resisting hand over hand assistance, and has been having trouble with transitions, especially during arrival. He was getting very frustrated and was very LOUD about [...]
Autism Doesn’t Take a Vacation
Posted in Autism, Travel on January 5, 2009 | 5 Comments »
We took the Roc down south to visit the in-laws for a week. We mistakenly called it a “vacation” and Autism doesn’t take a vacation, actually, Autism doesn’t like to go on vacation. The problem is that the Roc DOES like to travel, but as I’ve already mentioned, his Autism doesn’t. I may be making [...]
